Happy Father's Day

Early Father's Day morning, 'The Hubs' whispered in my ear and said he was taking 'The Boy' to get breakfast with his Dad.  I got to sleep in...on Father's Day!  Felt like Mother's Day to me.  When they got back, he picked up 'Munchkin' and took them to the pet shop to look at puppies ( I told him I'd kill him if he brought one home) and for ice cream.

I stayed home and looked at old pictures and blog posts and sobbed my eyes out.  It's weird...as time has passed, there are days that go by and I forget to miss my Dad.  But there are some days where it feels like the wound in my heart is fresh as if the whole thing has just happened.  'The Hubs' and I have an understanding.  He gives me the morning to cry, scream, sob and just miss my Dad.  He gets the first half of the day with the people who gave him this day in the first place.  Win, win.  I suppose as time goes by, I'll require less and less of the day to mope in my pj's, eating cake for breakfast.

When they got home, we got ready for a little BBQ with my mom and step-dad.  We ate yummy food and loved on our Daddy and Pop and got back to what the day is really about now.  Thank you, baby for being such a wonderful Daddy and understanding husband.

Dixon Lake

Our friends, Monica and Evan invited us camping at Dixon Lake in Escondido.  We were hoping to be able to get away without 'The Littles' but it didn't work out so they went on their very first camping trip.  Camping is not for everyone and Monica even told me that she was concerned we wouldn't make it through the night with the kids.  Have kids, will travel.  Honestly, they far exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to take them again.

'The Hubs' set up our tent once we got their and I watched 'The Boy' roll around in the dirt while 'Munchkin' napped.  Our first air mattress needed an electric hookup to inflate so the boys took it to the bathroom to do the deed and walked it back to the campsite.

It all seemed to work out just fine until 'The Hubs' realized he had put a hole in when they were trying to maneuver it out of the bathroom.  Camping with a leaky air mattress...not so awesome.  We tried to enjoy the campsite before coming up with a plan B.

'The Hubs' enjoyed his new lounge chair.

'Munchkin' enjoyed a beer can.

And then, she later spit up into my Coach purse.  Who brings a Coach purse camping, anyway?  Me, I do.

We decided that plan B involve me taking my spit up smelling Coach purse and 'Munchkin' toTarget to buy a new air mattress.  Monica and the boys took 'The Boy' out on the lake for his first fishing adventure.

He loved being on the water, just like his Daddy.  He was, however, very disappointed that he did not catch a fish.  He talked about wanting to catch one for days after we got home.
Once the sun started to go down, it got cooler and we bundled up to make some dinner.

'The Littles' went to sleep so easily.  'Munchkin' was pooped and she passed out in her pack and play super fast.  'The Boy' watched a movie on his portable DVD player and fell asleep halfway through.

We woke up the next morning and started to pack up a little bit before Monica and I took 'The Boy' on a hike.  I am telling you, that kid loves the outdoors.  He would have hiked all day if he could have but the trail only went so far before we had to turn around and head back to the campsite.

The Johnson/Schroeder camping trip while short, was successful.  I think 'The Littles' will be fine with a weekender.  We can't wait for our next outdoor adventure.

Coronado: Nick and Julie's Wedding

Our friends Nick and Julie got married on the Coronado Island base.  Of course, we made a little trip out of it and stayed at our favorite Marriott.  We got a room with an awesome pool and bridge view.  Too bad we weren't there long enough to enjoy it.

No sooner did we check in that we were rushing to get dressed and head to the Naval base.  'The Hubs' lived on the base when he was in the Navy so we drove around for a bit and he pointed out different landmarks and told me a bunch of stories about the good old days.

The wedding was on a boardwalk overlooking the ocean.  It was not a warm day but it was still beautiful.  We were a little concerned with how well the kids would behave during the ceremony but, the roles were reversed and, for once, 'The Boy' was good as gold and 'Munchkin' had to be removed.

This face says it all...pretty much sums up his expectations on the kids behavior.

My handsome little man.

'Munchkin' and her love, Owen.

The reception was so fun and there was a huge dance floor for 'The Littles' to run around on.

I just love this.  He pulled around the dance floor for quite a while and she giggled the whole time.

Fruit punch mustache...the very best kind.

Dancin' queen.

We had a blast but the kids faded around 8:30 and we knew we had to leave before all the real grown up fun began.  Congrats, Nick and Julie.  Thanks for allowing us to be a part of your special day.

Oceanside

We got bored one Friday afternoon and decided to take a spur of the moment trip to Oceanside.  We didn't get down there until almost 5 so we ended up staying for about an hour before heading out to dinner.    I was exhausted and took a quick catnap on the sand while 'The Hubs' played with the kids.  I didn't sleep for long.  He got overwhelmed pretty fast.

This one ate mouthfuls of sand.  We thought she might not have room for dinner.

 Mouthfuls!

Such a peaceful afternoon...the whole hour of it, anyway.
