All of August

The days are escaping me.  It seems that this month has been put on fast forward and I can barley keep up.  My camera hardly makes it anywhere I do and I have been lacking on documenting the everyday fun.  Plus, it was darn hot and nothing gets done properly when it's darn hot outside.  We spent the month melting in the sun and cooling of in air conditioned bliss of our house...

...miserably hot at an adorable birthday party...

...miserably tired at the same party...

...taking a nap in the car...yes, he slept like that...

...trying some new hairstyles with the finest hair I've ever seen...

 ...using markers for makeup...

...and finding a place to relax and cool off...

I promise I'll be better, September but, only if August takes the heat wave with it.

First Day of Pre-K

I can't believe that 'The Boy' is in pre-K.  Mainly because that means he'll be off to kindergarten next year.  He is growing up so fast!  He was so excited for school to start and I was so ready for him to go back.  He spent the last few weeks of summer break just staring at me and telling me how bored he was.  Next summer, he'll take summer school classes.  He's that kind of kid.
We layed out his clothes and packed his lunch the night before so getting ready in the morning was a breeze.  'The Hubs' works from home on Mondays so it was nice having an extra pair of hands.  I made a special breakfast...pancakes and sausage...his favorite.  We gave him a first day of school card and a little pep talk and then we were off.

Such a goofy kid!  I told his teachers that his claim to fame is being class clown.  They can't say they weren't warned.

All ready for a big morning.

He was so excited to get the door by himself and told us that he doesn't go to music school (his class last year had music notes on the door) because now he is a big boy and goes to hot air balloon school.

He met his teachers, Miss Veronica and Miss Sonia B, put his lunch in his cubby and sat on the color green (his favorite) on the rug for circle time.  When we were walking out, he was already talking to some new kids and showing them his new "light-up shoes".  And, of course, I cried on the way home.  I am pregnant after all.

We picked him up together and he told us all about his first day, beaming from ear to ear.  I love that he enjoys school and learning so much and hope that he continues to do so as the years go by.

When we got home, 'Munchkin' went down for her nap and 'The Boy' and I had activity time together.  They don't assign homework at this age but, I want to get him in the habit of doing schoolwork when he gets home.  That way it won't be so much of a shock next year.  We spent the afternoon cutting and pasting and giggling.

After 'The Hubs' finished up with work for the day, he and 'The Boy' went to the golf range to hit a bucket of balls.  'The Boy' was so excited to have one on one time with Daddy.  Then, 'Munchkin' and I met them for sushi.  I loved making the first day of school special for him and am so excited for what this school year will bring.

Sea World

On the last day of our San Diego adventure, we took 'The Littles' to Sea World.  'The Boy' watches and listens to commericials on tv and kept asking to go and see the new Turtle Reef.  It was amazing!  He loved being able to stand right under them as they swam by.

On our way out of the exhibit, he saw the line for the new Riptide Rescue ride.  I was hoping to get away with telling him he wasn't tall enought but he was just over the line.  Pop rode with him because I couldn't.  They stood in line nearly a half an hour and I was so worried that he would chicken out as soon as they got to the front.  But, he didn't.

He looked a little scared to me but he said it was fun and asked to go on again.  This did not happen.  He was redirected to the sea lion show.  Then we saw the Shamu show ('Munchkin' loved it, 'The Boy' was not impressed) and walked through the penguin exhibit.  All without a single picture.  Then we decided that we were all exhausted.  We headed home but we'll be back to get more in.  I got season  passes because I'm crazy like that.  Farewell, San Diego.  We'll be back.

Down South

'The Hubs' travels for work.  A lot.  And this summer, we followed.  He had to be in San Diego for a few days and it just so happened that Pop's plant shut down that same week so I got some extra help.  Sometimes we stay at an older hotel and sometimes we get lucky and stay at snazzier places.  This time we got to stay at the beautiful Marriott Marquis on the marina.  Snaz-zey!

 Hello, view!

'The Hubs' had to work up in the room as soon as we checked in...poor guy.  It was late in the afternoon but still warm and gorgeous out so, we headed off to the pool.  'The Boy' has been taking swimming lessons all summer and showed off his stuff.  It is amazing how much he has improved in such a short amount of time.  He actually gets in the water without screaming and doesn't hesitate to swim away from the steps.

We try.

That night, after 'The Hubs' wrapped up business, we went for a stroll to Seaport Village for some dinner.  I can remember, back when we were dating, we went there when our cruise ship stopped in San Diego and we were like, "Eh".  But watching the kids run around and discover it all was so much fun.

Umbrella strollers are soooo much better.

We had to check out the sail boats for a while.  He was in awe.

And he also loved watching the ducks at the pond.  He wanted to stay out there all night.

All night.

The next morning we got off to a slow start.  'The Hubs' had to leave very early for the day and we wouldn't get to see him again until bedtime.  We had breakfast in our pj's in the hotel's concierge lounge...where pj's are always welcomed.  Then, Gigi had to come to our room to watch 'The Littles' so that I could shower.  A peaceful shower...with the door closed...ahhh!  We finally packed up the car and decided to cross the bridge to our beloved Coronado Island.  We had no plans and, of course, ended up at the beach.  And, of course, we didn't come entirely prepared.  We had no lunch.  Only miscellaneous packages of crackers that got gobbled up real fast.

Not our best beach trip.  I was horribly nauseous and both kids were cranky.  'The Boy' didn't even want to put on his swim suit.  And for the record, I covered us up with sunscreen as best as my sick self could.

'Munchkin' couldn't get the hang of walking in the sand so she resorted to her old ways.

Sandy crackers are not a favorite.

He finally put his suit on after his clothes got soaked.

We decided to pack it up a few hours later.  It's a good thing we did.  'The Littles' and I ended up with patchy sunburns and we may have been lobsters if we had stayed any longer.  We headed back to the hotel, munched on some more snacks, changed and headed out for an early dinner.

We went to Old Town, San Diego and ate at Casa de Reyes.  Such good food and 'The Littles' loved the Mexican Folklore dancing show.  You should know that a virgin mango margarita is not as good as the real thing.  I miss tequila.  We were all so famished and exhausted that we wound up with one picture from that night.

We try.

We got back to the hotel just in time for Daddy to tuck us in for the night.  The next day we went to Sea World.  I'll save that for later.  This just turned into a two parter.
